Chana Shaffer practices ART law, focusing on both agency-aided and independent journeys. While Chana is licensed to practice in New York, she has represented clients from across the United States.
Chana graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2010. After working in employee law, she moved into academia, becoming a professor of political science and law at Touro College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She later accepted the position of Assistant Dean at Lander College for Women, Touro College,.

In 2019, Chana returned to practice law at Balisok & Kaufman, PLLC, where she worked as a litigator and then a bankruptcy attorney. She conducted specialized research and wrote a variety of legal papers, including a brief for a landmark Chapter 7 case, which won on appeal​.
After embarking on a surrogacy journey to have a daughter of her own, Chana opened a surrogacy law branch of the firm. Since opening this branch, Chana has represented clients from across the United States, handling each case with thoughtful attention and care.

Chana lives in New York with her family. Her law practice focuses on ART law, and she also works as a licensed psychotherapist.

MY STORY
My foray into Assisted Reproductive Technologies law began with my own journey to have a baby through surrogacy, after experiencing infertility and pregnancy loss. We researched a variety of options, and ultimately decided to embark on a surrogacy journey, where we met our surrogate, an incredibly responsible, dedicated and kind person. ​Three years from our decision to embark on a surrogacy journey, we welcomed our baby into our family, an incredibly joyous and surreal moment.
As I was embarking on my own surrogacy journey, I explored the legalities of the world of surrogacy and became fascinated with this new and evolving field of law. I knew I wanted to work in a field that could help people in such a profound and meaningful way.
